Assemblies need specific parts in specific quantities, but that knowledge lives in binders, spreadsheets, and senior techs' heads. When an asset fails, technicians order from memory. Critical spares stock out at the worst moment, and slow movers pile up because nobody knows which assets actually use them.

  2. Pick an asset and add the parts it consumes, with quantities.
  3. Flag critical spares so buyers treat them differently.
  4. Use Where Used from the part side when planning a reorder or a change.

  • Start with your five most critical machines; a partial BOM beats no BOM.
  • Flag sparingly: if everything is critical, nothing is.
  • Run Where Used before deleting or swapping any part item.
